Assembly Instructions for 2533 Blasting Cabinet

 

Step 1. Funnel Gasket Installation

Place funnel assembly upside down on a table or bench. Peel off paper backing from 1" wide foam gasket and apply to lip of funnel. Trim length of gasket as needed. Use a punch or nail to make holes in funnel gasket for bolt installation.

Step 2. Leg Installation

Place cabinet on its back on a table or bench. Remove (16) 1/4" x 20 x 1/2"L bolts and locking hex nuts from bolt packet. Insert 1/4" bolt through leg and into cabinet. Place 1/4" locking hex nut over bolt and hand tighten. Repeat above for remaining three legs.

Step 3. Funnel Installation

Stand cabinet upright. For easier installation, remove screws from black glove flanges and pull out flanges with gloves from cabinet body. With gloves and flanges removed, there will be extra room for funnel to be inserted into cabinet body.

Insert funnel assembly through bottom of cabinet. This will require holding funnel at a slight angle until once inside bottom lip of cabinet. Once funnel is installed, reinstall glove flanges to cabinet.

NOTE: BE SURE PICKUP TUBE IN FUNNEL AND TRAP DOOR ARE BOTH FACING FRONT OF CABINET.

Remove four 1/4" x 20 x 1"L bolts, and four locking hex nuts from bolt package. Insert four 1/4" bolts though holes in funnel (inside cabinet). Place locking hex nuts over bolts and hand tighten. Tighten leg bolts and level cabinet.

Step 4. Hose Installation

Insert end of blue 7' whip hose through cabinet grommet on front of cabinet. Connect to bottom handle of S-25 power gun by screwing into place (use teflon tape or pipe compound - DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN). Connect clear siphon hose from pickup tube in funnel to power gun (slip fit). Connect your air hose to other end of the 7' air hose.

 

Step 5. Vac Ferrule Installation

Remove four screws installed on the left side of the cabinet. Attach vac ferrule to cabinet by inserting sheet metal screws through vac ferrule and gasket. Tighten screws securley to compress gasket. Your shop vacuum will connect to this ferrule to remove dust created in blasting.

When using a shop vacuum, be sure to install the paper filter over the standard filter. Otherwise, abrasive could work its way into the vacuum motor, causing bearing failure. Glastar sells a preliminary filter, which can be placed over the conventional filters used in most shop vacuums. This filter bag is constructed of a special "soil release" material, which will be easy to clean and will help prevent dust and abrasive from passing through the conventional filters included with most shop vacuums.

 

Step 6. Load Abrasive

Add 15-20 lbs of suitable abrasive by pouring through top-loading door opening into funnel hopper. NOTE: always use a fine grade of abrasive to prevent clogging

We recommend straining through a double layer of ordinary window screen or our Abrasive Sifter. If it passes though the screen, it will pass through the nozzle.

DO NOT OVERFILL FUNNEL - Fill only about 1/3 of the hopper (in most cases, this is about 15-20 lbs of abrasive). Too much abrasive will pack and not feed properly

 

YOU ARE READY TO START BLASTING!

 

 

General Operation Instructions

Place piece to be blasted on the work area screen inside cabinet

Close & latch loading door

With hands in cabinet gloves, hold piece with left hand and hold blasting gun with right hand (if you are left handed, hold gun in left hand and piece in right hand)

Aim at a slight angle to the work being blasted and pull trigger of blasting gun.

Abrasive will come out under pressure

Abrasive will drop to the bottom of the funnel for recycling

Dust is drawn into the acuum system fro lrft side, providing good visibility within the cabinet.

Abrasive should be changed hen it gets "dusty" and visibility is poor.

Abrasive will eventually lose its sharpness after it breaks down, so change on a regular basis. When the abrasive breaks down to this "dusty" consistancy, it can clog your shop vac filter and result in poor vaccum suction. However, no matter how careful you are, some dust and abrasive will always be in the area of the cabinet. For this reason, we do not recommend locating the cabinet in the vicinity of an air compressor or other equipment that should be in a clean atmosphere.

To change the abrasive, place a container under bottom of funnel and open spring-loaded trap door, allowing worn abrasive to drop into container. close trap door and refill with new abrasive or recycle your old abrasive.

 

 

Troubleshooting
Little or no abrasive coming out of gun

A. Incorrect nozzle/air jet set up

C. Low air supply or obstruction in your air line system

 

 

 

D. Moist abrasive

 

E. Moisture in the incoming air supply

A. IMPORTANT - Nozzle and air jetsare color-coded and installed in MATCHING SETS. If nozzle and air jet do not match, unit will not work. If necessary, carefully measure hole size in both parts (SMALL: nozzle 13/64" ID, air jet 5/16"; MEDIUM: nozzle 14" ID, air jet 7/64" ID; LARGE: nozzle 5/16" ID, air jst 5/32" ID). Mixing of nozzle and air jet is the chief cause of problems with the siphon gun.

B. Remove hose from bottom inlet of Gun Suction Head. Pull trigger and blow air through gun. Put finger over bottom inlet of gun suction head. A definite "suction" should be felt. If not, check that gun suction head is seated TIGHTLY against air jet gasket and that the gasket surface is clean and installed correctly. When assembling gun suction head to gun, it is necessary to push parts together VERY TIGHTLY, or a loss of suction will result

C. Low air supply (under 3HP) requires the use of the smaller gold nozzles and air jets. Also check your incoming air line system for clogged strainers, faulty regulators, quick couplers, and valves, or abstruction in air hose. Any minor problem in the incoming air supply can be CRITICAL. To check: connect air hose (of proper size) directly to your compressor, bypassing all regulators and separators. If air volume is increased, recheck your air line system and replace necessary parts and/or fittings.

D. Abrasive can contain a considerable amount of moisture, eve, though it appears dry. Always purchase abrasive in sealed bags and sift before use.

E. Many compressors (especially if working hard under heavy loads) put out moisture in a vapor form which can easily pass through standard moisture traps. We recomend a Water Extractor at the cabinet to eliminate this moisture.

Surging or sputtering of the abrasive flow at the nozzle

D. Worn-out nozzle or air jet

E. Clogged or blocked pickup tube

A. Nozzles and air jets are color-coded and must be changed in sets (see 'A' above). Also check exact position of the air jet gasket when installing parts. If gasket is on wrong side of air jet, unit will not operate.

B. Remove siphon hose and blow out obstruction with your gun. See 'B' in 3rd section for details.

C. Inside the funnel of the cabinet is a metal pickup tube. Depending on the type of abrasive used and other factors, the pickup tube will eventually wear out and should be replaced. Signs of a worn-out pickup tube are surging, sputtering, and no or little abrasive in the blast itself.

D. Replace worn parts. Be sure to seat firmly against the gaskets to prevent loss of suction and premature wear of gun suction head.

E. Sometimes a particle of rust or other obstruction can fall into the air inlet of the siphon hose and cause problems. Remove siphon hose and clean thoroughly

A. Often an object will wedge in the inlet of the gun suction head. Remove obstruction with a nail or similar pointed object, and blow ot with air. If this part is clogged, abrasive cannot enter the gun

B. Release trigger pressure to stop air flow. Place the nozzle end against a scrap of rubber or a rubber ball. Hold tightly against the rubber to seal off the air from coming out the end of the gun. Then pull trigger and blow obstruction BACKWARDS for several seconds. Resume blasting. If necessary to repeat procedure frequently, abrasive may need to be strained or dried.

C. Check abrasive level & replace as needed. Abrasive may need sifting to remove foreign objects. *NOTE - when resusing abrasive, be sure to strain through two (2) layers of window screen or our Abrasive Sifter.

D. DO NOT OVERFILL funnel, as too much abrasive can pack & cause problems of feeding into pickup tube

Sticking of valve in the on or off position

A. Worn-out vale disc or spring

 

B. Abrasive in valve/damaged valve stem

A. Disconnect incoming air. Disassemble valve assembly from power gun by removing nut. Clean and replace valve

B. Same as above. Remove obstuction and disassemble. Lightly sand the valve stem before replacing

Wear Items

A. Nozzle wears out

 

 

B. Air jet wears out

 

C. Worn gun suction head

A. After several hours' use, the nozzle wear wear from the inside out due to the abrasive and air mixture swirling around the inside of the nozzle. Wear always takes place on one side of the nozzle. Examine and replace nozzles as needed.

B. Air jet wears on one side. Rotate 1/4 turn after 3 hours of use for longer life. Change as needed.

C. Gun suction head wears from the inside out, same as the nozzles, and usually on one side. This is normal. Replace as needed
